Nikko Onari Kaido was established during the Edo period as a subroute to Nikkō Kaido.
It was built for the shogun to use as he traveled to Nikko Tosho-gu.
Nishigahara Ichiri-zuka is a historical milestone of Nikkō Kaido.
Nishigahara Ichiri-zuka has been well kept for almost 400 years, which is second milestone from the start point "Nihonbashi".

この西ヶ原一里塚は、日光御成街道における、日本橋から２番目の一里塚になります。
旧街道を挟み南北の一里塚が、往年の姿で残されている都内でも稀有な場所なのです。
