Every now and then, I like to go on a REAL hike. No path signs, no clear directions, no paved paths. Just a good map, a compass, nature and me. It is during hikes like this, that I find myself conducting an internal discussion that follows these lines:
- Wow! This is such a nice spot. I really should put a cache here.
- No one is going to come here – it is a difficult path and far from a road. People like easy drive-byes.
- But that is not fair! Some people DO make serious and adventuress hikes, and they deserve caches as well.
- So you are going to hide a cache for 1 or 2 people a year?!?!
And often, I decide not to bother for one or two people a year.
Yet lately, I have come to a realization that ‘us few’, who boldly go where others do not, deserve caches, no less (if not more) than anyone else. And so, I have put my cache where my mouth is an hid 2 caches on Nahal Biranit.
This is quite simply a path for professionals. Expect some cattle fences, low hanging branches, and an elusive path. You won’t get lost as long as you hug the river bed but I recommend not walking there as the stones make for difficult walking. Instead, do what the locals do (cows), walk about 3 meters to the side of the river bed. I have hidden 2 caches on this path. The first is on Biranit but the second is technically on Nahal Serach although it is really the same path and terrain.
This cache is hidden next to 2 impressive wells located in the middle of a field. The cache is 10 paces, South West of the West well. Look for a low wall (terasa) that is a bit lower than the well.
The cache is a plastic container with a white plastic lid. It is full of fun stuff and waiting for the truly motivated cacher that will stop at nothing to get the job done!
