Nuko Matsuri 2012

この場所にはかつて文豪 夏目漱石がイギリス留学から帰国後の1903年6月から1906年12月まで住んだ家がありました。 この家に住んでいる間、大学・高等学校で講師として働く傍ら、代表作の一つであり処女作でもある「我輩は猫である」を執筆しました。 この旧居は「吾輩は猫である」の舞台のモデルとも言われています。また、モデルとなった猫は夏目家に迷い込んでそのまま住みついた黒猫と言われています。そんな経緯から旧居は「猫の家」と呼ばれたそうです。

現在では旧居は愛知県犬山市にある「明治村」に移築・公開され、この地には記念碑が残されているだけです。 記念碑近くの塀の上には猫の像が設置されています。

In this place, there was the house where great writer Soseki Natsume ever lived in studying abroad after the return home in U.K. from June, 1903 to December, 1906. He wrote "I am a CAT"(Wagahai ha Neko de aru) which he was one of the masterpieces, and was the maiden work in this house while he worked as a lecturer in a university and a high school. This former house is said to be a model of the stage that "I am a CAT". And, the cat which became the model of the chief character is said to be the black cat which settled down in the Natsume House. From such a process the former house called "The Cat House" is so.

The former house is removed and rebuilt to "Meiji-mura Village Museum" in Inuyama-shi, Aichi, and it is shown now. And only a monument is left for this ground. The image of the cat is installed on the wall nearly the monument.
