Geocache Description:

A micro cache near our local church.

Church Micro 2416 … Appleton
St Laurence Church, Appleton

This church dates back to the 12th century.
Parts of it date back to Norman times, including the font, which has an interesting wooden octagonal cover which was made in the 17th century.
Appleton church tower houses 10 bells. Whites of Appleton are a family business of bellhangers which was founded in 1854, and is still run by the same family today.
An interesting grave of one Alfred White decorated with bells can be seen in the graveyard on the south side of the church.
A modern stained glass window was donated by the family of Sir Basil Blackwell, the founder of the famous Blackwells bookshop of Oxford. It also depicts the 10 bells, and has a picture of cats playing.

Behind the church is Appleton Manor House which was built in the reign of Henry II in about 1190, thought to be the oldest of its kind left in England.
I hope you enjoy this cache.
I advise that you do not look for this cache at around 8:40am or 3:10 – 3:30pm as the Church Lane leads down to the school and there are many curious muggles of all sizes at this time!
If anybody would like to expand this series please do, I would just ask that you could let sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
