The Old Woodbridge Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Henzz: The human being... God's greatest creation...
... was placed on the most amazing planet in all of the universe...
God asked of man a few things, nothing impossible or too difficult...
One of the things we were asked to do was to look after the Earth...

Somehow we did all right the first couple of 1000 years...
But then we somehow lost the way...
Slowly but surely we are suffocating this ball we live on...
Bit by bit we are killing our own planet off...

Some of us are lucky enough to remember the good old days...
Picnics under willow trees, green grass and fresh river streams...
Birdsong in the lush canopies above...
A quick dip in cool clean water...

And all of that only a few short years ago...
What have we left our children?
.... Dirty river banks, Toxic water, a dead fish floating by...
We have failed in our duty, we failed horrendously...

I can not expect anybody to go after this cache with a clear conscience...
I am angry, I am furious... I am sad...
Not for the cache, but for the river, the birds and the fish, the crabs and the clams...
We killed them off... We signed their death warrants...

One day, not to distant into the future we will stare at our iPads...
We will marvel at pictures of a planet beautiful...
We will long to live on that planet...
Sad thing is..... We did...

Geocache Description:

WoodBridge

The old Woodbridge was built way back in 1901 by the Royal Engineers during the Boer War. It stood the test of time for many years, carrying traffic over the Diep River. In recent years a new bridge was built nearby, and the Woodbridge became a pedestrian walk where people would take leisurely strolls in the late afternoons, and where kids could catch fish from. But sadly the Woodbridge is now in a poor state of repair, regarded as unsafe, and no one is allowed onto the bridge anymore.

But…

There lurks a cache beneath the bridge. Not too far from the shore. If you are brave enough, take a quick swim, and see if you can find it. The river is deep, but the cache sits high and dry.

I suggest you bring someone along to look after your car keys and to have a towel ready for when you return. Do not attempt this cache during the rainy season, as the currents could be too strong.

Good Luck, and Have Fun.
