Geocache Description:

This cache is the 4th point on the Dartmoor Forest boundary, as established by the 1240 Perambulation. More details about the Perambulation can be found on the cache page for the Dartmoor Forest Bonus. On the front page of the logbook is an adjustment to be made to the Bonus co-ordinates, which you will need to find the Bonus.

Most of the boundary of the Forest of Dartmoor is well established, but there are one or two areas where the modern accepted boundary and the historic one do not coincide, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the north east quadrant. The modern boundary in this area passes from Cosdon, through Hound Tor, Watern Tor and Manga Rock to end passing through Two Stones and Longstone on Shoveldown.

The original writ has the Perambulators pass through a place where the Wotesbroke river meets the Tyng. The Tyng is the North Teign river, but the identity of the Wotesbroke remains in doubt. Some would have it that this is the river now called Hugh Lake, but this is quite small to be used as a landmark. It is more likely that the Walla Brook (of which there are a surprising number on the moor) is the river in question, and that the landmark used for the boundary is where both rivers are forded at Teign-e-ver.

This cache overlooks the ford of the North Teign at this place, although it is preferable to use the clapper bridges to cross the rivers.

If doing this cache as a standalone, there is parking at Scorhill Farm or Batworthy (waypoints below). If doing the Perambulation as a route, the next point on is Batworthy Corner. Follow the clearly defined trail parallel to the enclosure wall.
