Geocache Description:

This cache is the 7th point on the Dartmoor Forest boundary, as established by the 1240 Perambulation. More details about the Perambulation can be found on the cache page for the Dartmoor Forest Bonus. On the front page of the logbook is an adjustment to be made to the Bonus co-ordinates, which you will need to find the Bonus.

This section of the Perambulation is one where the modern boundary differs from the Duchy’s accepted historical boundary. The modern one passes along Hurston Ridge to King’s Oven. The Duchy’s boundary follows the straight line from Longstone to North Walla Brook, where this cache is, before heading up the brook to King’s Oven car park. The route of this walk has a bit of both, including King’s Oven as well as the North Walla Brook.

If doing this cache as a standalone, the closest parking is at Wallebrook Head car park (waypoint below). If doing the Perambulation as a route, the next point on is Furnum Regis. There is no good path between this cache and the next, but there is a track of sorts running up the valley. Keep up the hillside to avoid the worst of the squelchy bits, but you will be doing well to avoid them altogether. At the head of the valley the path disappears, then you will have to wind your way uphill through the heather, which isn’t too difficult.

This cache has been placed in accordance with the DNPA guidelines.
