The Fallen Forest Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Alex+Aimee: Unfortunately, due to the flooding in late May/early June, this cache seems to have finally disappeared. We went to check on our other cache along the brook back then but didn't consider Woodgate would have the same issues. Duh!!

It's had a good run, and I'm glad we were able to keep this one going, but we're going to archive this. The container has gone AWOL (believe me, we've searched) and the original hiding place must have been washed away.

As there are no more in Woodgate and as the rangers are still allowing them, we're considering placing a few caches or a series here in the future. It's such a shame to see the area empty.

Geocache Description:

A short walk through Woodgate Valley country park to a quiet spot by the stream. This cache was originally placed in 2012 to celebrate the performing arts company Fevered Sleep's project at the time, "The Forest". In its second generation it's now a small clear clip-n-lock box within a camouflage bag.

This cache was placed as part of a tour around various forests and wooded areas in the UK. Adopted in 2014 by Alex+Aimee, it now has a different container, fresh contents and a new lease of life. Thank you very much to Catriona from Fevered Sleep for handing this over to us, and to the rangers at Woodgate Valley for continually allowing this cache's residency.

Woodgate's Country Park is one of our favourite places to visit while staying in Harborne, and the cache is hidden away in a small woodland spot off the main path close to the Bourn Brook. The path leading to the cache can get very muddy, even during dry spells, so ensure you wear some good footwear!

There are many entrances to the park, but our most commonly used entrance is on West Boulevard (note: no parking on West Boulevard) and takes you right to GZ (stay on the south side of the brook). You can easily access the path to GZ from the visitor's centre as well, so be sure to grab a bite to eat at the cafe while you're there. If you're lucky, you may even meet some horses on the way!

You'll be in plain sight when retrieving the cache, so ensure to keep your wits about you. There may be brambles around the cache, and you will have to leave the path to get to it.
