Fort Ord Dunes State Park has recently undergone some changes which give it the look of a "real" state park--improved signage, updated information kiosks, a newly-paved and striped biking/hiking trail, as well as occasional restrictive fencing. However, just beyond all that lies the Ice Plant Playground...
By following a social trail towards the sea, you will walk through areas of massive ice plant eradication. However, the species is difficult to eliminate, as evidenced by a few flashes of green amidst the grey bones.
The container is a camo'd plastic jar filled with trade items and a log. Please bring your own pen.
Park hours are 8:00am to a half hour after sunset daily. Admission is free. In addition to the main parking area just across the 8th Street bridge, parking and entry are also available on the corner of 1st Avenue and 1st Street just east of Highway 1.
