The Muppet Show, a half-hour long musical comedy variety show, aired on TV from 1976-1981. The action in each episode included onstage acts and frantic backstage activity among emcee Kermit the Frog, his Muppet friends and a live celebrity. The creation of puppeteer Jim Henson, The Muppet Show introduced us to many endearing characters, many of whom are being celebrated with caches in and around the Whitnall Park/Root River Parkway area.
Gonzo the Great
Gonzo the Great is a daredevil performance artist with blue fur, bug eyes and a long crooked nose. Often seen on stage being shot out of a cannon, he is proud of his uniqueness and enjoys every skit no matter how ill-advised, dangerous or painful it might be. He has an affinity for chickens and on The Muppet Show has been in a long-time relationship with Camilla, an attractive chicken with blue eyelids and long eyelashes.
