If it's not the biggest drainage coming off of Frenchman's Mountain, it's one of them. You'll be looking for a 3.5 Floppy disk holder (obsolete these days) full of swag.
I marvel at how so very little rain has carved out such huge areas of this mountain and deposited the rocks and sand miles away down the hill. I wouldn't beleive how deep this gully is if I hadn't seen it myself.
Only eleven floods in my lifetime of ~50 years have occurred in the Las Vegas area and not even half of those have impacted the east side very much; about one every ten years on average. When the rain does fall in the summer, however, it can come in torrents creating a washout effect in these steeper gullies. This website, www.ccrfcd.org/03-history.htm, gives a description of each storm that has impacted Las Vegas since 1905. I’m also intrigued at how the eroding factors of wind and water have left these rocks so jagged and rough.
There is a 4X4 dirt road coming up from Los Felis, but access to it seems to be blocked off. Anyway, park near Los Felis/Washington and enjoy a nice hike up the gentle slope of the alluvial fan for an easy find and a beautiful view of the city. Stay south of the drainage and be careful.
Remember to watch for dangerous animals as this is rattlesnake country, and bring plenty of water.
