The American Spirit was originally launched in July 1978 with the name George A. Stinson, a part of the National Steel Corporation fleet.
It became a part of the Skar-Ore Corporation fleet in 1986, changed hands again in 1989 Stinson Incorporated Fleet, the boat is now in control by American Steamship Company who renamed it American Spirit in 2004.
The boat is a straight-decker self-un-loader. The Boat is 1,004 feet in length and has a maximum load capacity of 62,400 tons. It is powered by a 2 V16 cylinders, 8,000 horsepower diesel engine.
