Geocache Description:

A CITO event at Prairie Creek Preserve in Alachua County

Prairie Creek Preserve is one of several land conservation projects maintained by the Alachua Conservation Trust (ACT). There are several miles of trails that wind through mixed hardwood hammocks, planted pine trees and natural wetlands.

The coordinates are for the parking area where we will meet at 9:00 AM. The land manager from ACT will meet us there and will transport people "hay ride" style out to the creek as it is a fairly long hike to get to the clean up area from the parking area.

Garbage bags will be provided and there may be some trash grabbers available, however if you have one, please bring it to help out. Please bring your own gloves and dress for walking along the creek through a forested area.

We will likely do clean up work for about 2 hours and then will be transported back to the parking area. ACT has said that they will have a large water cooler for giving us a chance to clean up a bit and we will be sure to have soap and hand sanitizer available as well.

The area has also been populated with geocaches if you are up for some hiking after the event is done.

There are limited facilities for lunch at this location. We will likely do sandwiches, chips and soda, but there isn't really a spot to get everything set out (no picnic tables readily available) and not really much for seating other than the ground. This will occur after we return to the parking area after the clean up. If people want to bring things for lunch to help out, that would be great. Please post in your log what you will be bringing so we can keep track. I have one 6 foot long table that I should be able to bring and may be able to get a couple others to at least get the food set out.

This is the first CITO event I have hosted and if I missed any important information in the cache description, please let me know and I'll happily update the page.

Huge thanks to the NEFGA for agreeing to help co-host this event!
