Geocache Description:

In Culcheth Linear Park, near Warrington, Cheshire, a small cache with room for swops and trackables. Starting place for Travel Bug 'Molly on her Holidays'. FTF badge for First To Find. Enjoy finding the unusual hiding place.

I have planned a cache here for a while after visiting regularly with Molly Dog.

Culcheth Linear Park length is approx 1 mile, approx 6.5miles from Warrington town centre.

Bus no 19 Warrington/Leigh stops at the park entrance.

By car from Culcheth village turn left at the Cherry Tree pub into Wigshaw Lane. After 500m and mini roundabout turn right at the park entrance signs to the car park. No toilet facilities!.

OS Explorer 276 Bolton, Wigan & Warrington.

Linear Park is built on the former railway line tracks of the Liverpool, St Helens & South Lancs Railway. Opened in 1878, it closed in 1968. In 1974, Warrington Borough Council converted the railway into a park and rangers took over management in 1983.

The park is an easy 1.5mile/2.5km walk but can get a bit muddy.

It has picnic areas and side paths leading off. There are several wood sculptures and carved benches dotted about. An overgrown mosaic can also be seen at the foot of the stone wall at the park entrance which was the site of the original waiting room.

It has a bridleway, bird feeding station and numbered sponsored bird boxes throughout. Feel free to post a bird food donation through the ranger hut letter box or visit the Friends of Linear Park web site.

THIS CACHE CANNOT BE ACCESSED FROM THE RAILWAY LINE END, EITHER USE THE PUBLIC FOOTPATHS EITHER SIDE OF LINEAR PARK OR GO FROM THE ENTRANCE OF CULCHETH LINEAR PARK.
