Geocache Description:

This place has held many memories for me.. When I was a little kid I knew it as "Spin Around" and I used to go to skating parties here, eat cake in their dingy "party" room and then stand out in the middle of the rink with roller-skates on trying to do the chicken dance! Then as I got older and became a middle schooler, the name changed to "Skate 309" and was the "cool" place to be on friday nights.

I placed this cache here for people to remember what was once a hoppin' place :) Please feel free to share any of your memories in your logs of this place; I'd love to hear them!

This place can definitely use some cleaning up, so feel free to CITO :)

I have included a pen in the cache.

Congrats to carybhall and zix7 for a co-FTF!!

NO NIGHT CACHING! There are some businesses and houses nearby, so keep stealth in mind :)

Here is some brief info about what happened to Skate 309. This is all I could find about it.

"The Skate 309 roller rink at 2117 Bethlehem Pike in the Hatfield/Hilltown area of Pennsylvania closed on April 7, 2007. The owners closed it because (1) a local auto dealership gave them a very good offer, (2) the rink owners were being kept very busy managing another rink in New Jersey, and (3) because participation in the rink's public sessions had dropped to about 120 to 150 skaters per night. The rink was sold to Peruzzi Toyota who planned to use it for an auto servicing facility. The Skate 309 Roller Rink was located inside a 20,000 square foot, steel walled building on 46 acres of land. The rink had a 152 x 73 foot maple wood floor and something called a "train wall" (what was that?). It was also the home of a senior citizens roller skating club. The property was sold by Jay Johnson of Drylander LLC and two other co-owners. The rink was owned by Murphy Maede from 1993 to 2003 and before that it was owned by Harold and William Christman." http://quadskating.com/rinks/us/pa.htm (Website is no longer working)

UPDATE SUMMER 2013!
The skating rink has re-opened as In Line Skate 309 - http://inline309.com
