Historische Gaststätten findet man nicht entlang der Autobahn, sondern an den alten Straßen, die früher für das Post- und Fuhrwesen eine Rolle spielten.

Es wird gesagt, dass dies das älteste Wirtshaus Tirols ist. Tatsächlich erwiesen ist es jedoch nicht. 1291 wird der Mellauner Hof das erste Mal urkundlich erwähnt. Beim Betrachten des Anwesens kann man sich gut vorstellen, dass das Gebäude weitaus älter sein könnte. Auf Grund der Größe könnte es sich um ein herrschaftliches Anwesen gehandelt haben. Im 17. Jhdt. wird die Geschichte des Hofes genauer beschrieben und erscheint als Post- und Einkehrgasthaus mit dem Recht zur Ausschank auf. Am Inn befand sich eine Fährstation – der Name Pettnau (Pette = altes Wort für Fähre) weist darauf hin.

Mit Hilfe der deutschen Messerschmitstiftung wurde Ende der 1990er Jahre die Bausubstanz renoviert. Der Wirt bietet Führungen durch das Gebäude an. Für kulturinteressierte CacherInnen ist der Besuch ein Muss. Meine Recherchen haben ergeben, dass dieses Wirtshaus zu den Allerschönsten des Landes zählt. Überzeugt euch selbst!

Historical buildings are not found along the Autobahn, but on the old routes which played a major role in the postal system and carrying.

It is said to be the oldest Hostelry in Tyrol, but it is not proven. The first documentation of the Mellauner Hof was in 1291. By looking at the estate, one can imagine the age of the building to be much older. Because of its dimensions, it might have been a stately home. In the 17th century, the history of the inn was defined to be a postal station and an inn with the right to serve food and beverages. The name of the village Pettnau indicates that there used to be a ferry at the river Inn (Pette = old word for ferry).

With the help of the Messerschmit-Trust, the structure of the building was renovated in the 1990s. Today, the inn-keeper offers a guided tour through his building. For anybody interested in culture, this place is a must-visit. It is said to be the most beautiful guesthouse in the Tyrol. Go and see for yourself!
