Geocache Description:

Micro (match container) hidden off of River Road and Elm Street approaching Neshanic Station. Affords a wonderful view of a 116-year-old bridge. You'll need a writing implement.

Imagine my surprise--and delight--when I discovered that one of the most scenic sites in all of Somerset County did not have a cache associated with it! Technically known as a twin span lenticular truss bridge, the Elm Street bridge allows one-lane traffic over the South Branch of the Raritan River. The Berlin Iron Bridge Co. in Connecticut built it in 1896. You see what was an old mill to the south and a stone trestle to the north. Nearby you'll find the Neshanic Reformed Church where they've worshipped God for 260 years, and also the Somerset Valley Playhouse. Active farms abound in the area; ride your bicycle on the bike lanes to see them. Make-shift parking is available on the east side of the bridge. Make sure to bring your camera!

As I hid the cache, a Norfolk Southern freight train rolled by. It's quite an idyllic spot, and you're in for a treat if you've missed it before.

A Costa Rican coin goes to the FTF.
