Zwei naturnah gestaltete Caches entlang des Alten Wassergrabens, der von vielen schon vergessen ist.
Parken könnt ihr bei N 50° 16.608 E 11° 44.041. Folgt ab der Mühle bitte einfach dem Wanderweg OS22 bzw. dem Museumsweg, diese beiden Markierungen laufen parallel.
Dieser zweite Cache befindet sich nicht im Graben und ist deswegen auch besser für Kinder geeignet.
Die Boxen sind ein bisschen empfindlich, bitte eine Seite nach der anderen mit beiden Händen öffnen, um die Lebenszeit nicht unnötig zu verkürzen. Teilweise liegt die Tarnung lose auf der Dose, teilweise ist sie angeklebt.
Nach dem Suchen der beiden Boxen entlang des alten Wassergrabens könnt ihr dem OS22 noch folgen. An der Brücke unten kann man vor allem im Sommer, wenn die Wiese blüht, schöne Fotos machen. Danach kommt man am Fuchsbau vorbei. Ein paar Meter weiter liegt der Cache “Fuchsbau-Panoramablick”.
Die Geschichte des Wassergrabens liegt heute etwas im Dunkeln. Otto Knopf schreibt in seinem "Lexikon Frankenwald" "Von der Lehstenmühle aus verläuft parallel zum Lehstenbach ein langer, gemauerter und überwucherter Graben bachaufwärts, der einst vermutlich als Mühlgraben diente...". Im Forum des Nordoberfränkischen Vereins für Natur-, Geschichts- und Landeskunde wurde ich eher fündig :
Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts eröffneten zwei Unternehmer aus Sachsen direkt neben der Lehstenmühle eine umgangssprachlich "Papierfabrik" genannte Firma, die sich auf die Herstellung von Zellstofffabrikaten spezialisiert hatte. Zum Betrieb der Anlage wurden mehrere Turbinen gebaut, die mit Wasserkraft angetrieben wurden; doch woher kam das kühle Nass? Der Lehstenbach konnte nicht angezapft werden, da die Fließgeschwindigkeit zwar zum Betrieb der Lehstenmühle, nicht aber für eine ganze Fabrik ausreichte. 1901 entschloss man sich, mithilfe von alles in allem 100 Arbeitern aus Italien und einer kleinen Lorenbahn entlang des Bachlaufs eben jenen Wassergraben zu errichten, der schließlich in ein kleines Häuschen führte, von dem sich heute nur noch die Grundmauern erhalten haben. Von hier aus wurde das Wasser mittels eines knapp 1,5 Meter breiten Fallrohres aus zusammengenieteten Stahlplatten durch eine natürliche Erhebung hindurch zur Fabrik geführt. Was jedoch niemand erwartet hatte, trat ein: Durch den immensen Druck bildeten sich schon nach kurzer Zeit Risse im Graben und die Fabrik musste bereits zwei Jahre später wieder geschlossen werden. Sie verfiel zusehends und so blieb in den 1950er Jahren nur noch der Abbruch der Grundmauern.
Vielleicht hat ja jemand von euch weitere Informationen zu diesem Graben? Ich persönlich habe den Wassergraben erst 2008 kennenlernen dürfen, eine Schauensteiner Kollegin kannte ihn schon - aber ich könnte mir vorstellen, dass einige Cacher hier unbekanntes Terrain betreten.
Wie ich auf die Idee für die beiden Caches dieser Mini-Serie gekommen bin, sehr ihr, wenn ihr die Boxen gefunden habt. In den Deckeln befindet sich ein QR-Code und ein Link. Wem jetzt die Lust am Kanal-Cachen gekommen ist, kann unter anderem auch in der Zone von Nürnberg (LMDK-Serie ), bei Miesbach (Blaumilchkanal ) oder in Tokyo (Tokyo Canal 1-20 ) auf seine Kosten kommen.

You can park at N 50° 16.608 E 11° 44.041. Go straight to the mill and follow the hiking pathes OS22 and "Museumsweg", they're going parallel here. Alternatively, simply cross the field.
This cache is NOT hidden IN the ditch, so it's more suitable for children than the other one.
Please treat the cache boxes carefully. Open one side after the other, using both hands. Some of the camouflage is sticked to the box.
After searching the two caches of this series, feel free to continue following the hiking path OS22. Especially in summer, when the field in the valley is covered with flowers, you can take great pictures here. Some meters ahead you'll pass the "Fuchsbau", a huge stone formation. The cache "Fuchsbau-Panoramablick" is directly on the OS22 route.
The history of this water ditch isn't clear. The historian Otto Knopf writes in his "Lexikon Frankenwald": "Starting at the Lehstenmühle, there's a long ditch walled up which goes parallel to the Lehsten-stream. It's overgrown and it seems that it once belonged to the mill...". On a forum about local history I found more detailled information:
"Towards the end of the 19th century, two saxonian businessmen opened up a so called "paper mill" right next to the Lehstenmühle. In fact it wasn't a mill but a company specialized on producing cellulose materials. For this company they needed also engines that would work with water, but from where should the water come? It was impossible to use the stream, it's force was enough for the Lehstenmühle, but not for an entire company. In 1901 they decided to build this water ditch. 100 workers from Italy and a little railway helped to construct this ditch which led to a litlte house. Nowadays you can see only the basic walls of this building. From here the water fell through a 1,5m large pipe down to the fabric. Noone had expected that the pressure in the ditch would be very high. Shortly after the construction, the first rips in the ditch were noticed. Only two years later the fabric had to close down. In the 1950s the building was teared down."
Now it's your turn to find out about the historical secrets of this ditch. Personally I got to know this ditch only in 2008, also one of my workmates living in Schauenstein knows it, but I imagine that some cachers might enter a terrain they have never seen before.

Potete parcheggiare a N 50° 16.608 E 11° 44.041. Andate dal mulino e da lì seguite i sentieri OS22 oppure il "Museumsweg" - in questa zona i due sentieri usano le stesse vie. Potete anche attraversare il campo, se possibile.
Questa cache NON è nascosta DENTRO il fosso, quindi è più adeguata per i bambini.
Per favore, state attenti con i box che sono un po' precari. Aprite un lato dopo l'altro, usando entrambe le mani. La camuffatura è attaccata al box, e ho decorato con pezzi staccati. Non c'è bisogno di rimuovere sassi dal muro!
Dopo aver cercato le due cache di questa serie, potete seguire OS22. Attraverso un ponte dove si possono fare bellissime foto soprattutto d'estate quando ci sono tutti i fiori, si arriva al Fuchsbau, una formazione di sassi. Stando sempre sul sentiero OS22, arrivate alla cache "Fuchsbau-Panoramablick".
La storia di questo canale non è chiara. Otto Knopf, uno storico locale, scrive nel suo "Lexikon Frankenwald": "Partendo dal mulino Lehsten, un fosso lungo e murato va parallelo al torrente Lehsten, probabilmente apparteneneva al mulino..."
Sul forum di un'associazione per la ricerca di storia locale si trovano più informazioni:
"Verso la fine del 19esimo secolo, due imprenditori della Sassonia aprivano una "fabbrica per la carta" direttamente accanto al mulino Lehsten. In realtà non era una fabbrica per carta, ma un'azienda specializzata nella produzione di materiali di cellulosa. Per fare andare avanti in questa fabbrica si costruirono alcune turbine, ma con che cosa farle funzionare? Era impossibile usare il torrente Lehsten, perché la sua corrente era appena abbastanza forte per il mulino, ma certamente non per tutta la fabbrica. Nel 1901 si decise di costruire il "nostro" fosso. Ci lavorarono circa 100 italiani e venne utilizzata una piccola ferrovia. Il canale terminava a una piccola casa della quale oggi è possibile vedere solo le fondazioni. Da qui, l'acqua cadeva giù per un tubo largo circa 1,5m, fino alla fabbrica giù nella valle. Nessuno aveva previsto quello che accadde poco dopo: La pressione nel canale era troppo forte e passò poco tempo finché non uscirono le prime crepe nel muro. Solo due anni dopo dovevano chiudere la fabbrica. Negli anni cinquanta l'edificio della fabbrica fu demolito. "
Adesso è il tuo turno di scoprire i segreti del fosso. Personalmene io conosco questo fosso solo dal 2008, anche una collega che abita a Schauenstein lo conosce, ma immagino che ci siano alcuni cacher che vedranno una zona nuova qui.
