Geocache Description:

While in the Valley Falls, KS, area, I came across this Pioneer Cemetery on the east side of town unexpectedly. While traveling east on KS Hwy 16, I just happened to notice the sign for this cemetery. My curiosity got the better of me and I went to explore. My original intention was to place some caches in the city cemetries nearby, but decided against that after finding this spot.

This is a fairly large pioneer cemetery, although the graves are quite spread out. I spent roughly an hour just exploring the area before I remembered to place the cache. The local historical society was closed upon my visit so was unable to gain any further information.

There is a perimeter fence nearby with cattle in the pasture - they were watching me intently entire time I was there. No reason to approach the cattle nor cross any fences.

Cache is just west of Valley Falls on KS Hwy 16. If traveling east, cemetery sign and access road is just past the city limits sign on south side. If traveling west, cemetery sign and access road is just before the city limits sign on south side.

Hope visitors enjoy this cemetery as much as I did - think it is one of the top 5 in my series. Think I should not have to say this but PLEASE replace cache as you found and DO NOT place cache in open to make it an easier find for the next visitors, there is a reason for the D/T ratings!

Cache you will be searching for is a SMALL POWDERED DRINK container.

Although cache placed in early March, there were no signs of P.I., ticks, thorns, or other critters. That may very well change in warmer weather.

Remember that this is a cemetery and please follow any/all rule/regulations that may be posted and that we have all read on other cemetery page write-ups.

UPDATE: November 17, 2013: Visited site for a maintenance check. Original spot seems to be a mystery to me as to why cache container cannot be hidden as somewhat originally placed. Placed a new container/log in a new location and updated everything accordingly.

UPDATE: December 05, 2015 - Some major landscaping in the area. Decided to place cache in a different spot. Also, and information kiosk with some historical information has been added to the cemetery entrance.

UPDATE: July 03, 2017 - Found new hiding location after the slaughter of that forest to the west. Looks like most, if not all, of the fallen over headstones are being repaired!!

UPDATE: June 08, 2019 - Seems that the ROCK that was at location to help container has been removed. Container still at location of coordinates.
