Geocache Description:

Small Lock-N-Lock official geocaching container. New swag and old log (from previous 2nd stage of archived Ox Cart Trail cache.)

In the 1850s there was an Ox Cart trail along the Minnesota River that was used to transport supplies from Fort Snelling to the Red River and Canada. An ox cart was a two wheeled cart pulled by oxen. This Trail in the Ney County Park is believed to be a part of that old ox cart trail. Take time to look out across the Minnesota River Valley from this point on the river bluff. It is likely that the old Ox Cart trail went down from here closer to where the present railroad bed is below. North of this trail, near the Ney Farm House, there is an old Stage Coach Stop building. South of this cache site the trail was cut and graded as a township road. So, there is a lot of history involving this part of the trail!
