Geocache Description:

This cache will take you to the former Aguirre Sugar Mill Admin's House or Casa Grande (a NATIONAL Register OF HISTORIC PLACE in Central Aguirre Historic District, ID #016).
The Administrator's plantation-style house (Casa Grande, ID#016) was built in 1900 and is located on "A" Avenue, with a double-pitched roof covered with asphalt shingles, double hung windows and fanlight doors. The two-story house has a "U"-shaped configuration, with the base of the "U" facing east towards the slope and a view of the sugar central. Its entrance is to the west, where a vehicular drop-off area is located. Various outbuildings related to the house are also located in this area, such as servant quarters, storage facilities and garages. There is evidence of other houses built in this style and with similar materials, but none have survived.

The house is a pre fabricated one, brought from Lousiana and erected in Aguirre. Four different presidents-administrators lived in the house during the sugar mill private operation and now is property of the PR Land Authority that rent it. Formely, the local TV producer Gabriel Sua rented the house. In 1985 the TV soap opera Tanairi was filmed in this house.

At the corner, the recent (2011) renovated bungalow type house in white with corrugated red roof belong to the actual major of Salinas.

A Baobab tree (Adansonia sp.) or Tree of Life can be seen behind the small natural wood house close to the cache. This tree is very similar to a Ceiba. The Baobab is considered a sacred tree in Africa and Madagascar from where it is native.
