How many times have you driven 299 between Eureka and Redding, and
have passed the Helena turnoff? Now's a chance to take the turnoff
and see what is there!!
There is not much left in Helena, but it is a pretty little
townsite alongside the river. The buildings are boarded up or
fenced off, but it's still neat to see what used to be there.
Please Note: While the cache location is accessible to the
public, the rest of the townsite is on private property. Please
respect this fact. Thanks!!
The cache has 4 questions. Please don't post the answers as part
of your visit report. Please email the answers to me. Thanks!!!
Question 1: The town was founded to service the gold mines.
What ere some of the original names of the town??
Question 2: What were some of the types of businesses that
were in the town???
Question 3:When was the name of the town changed to
Helena??
Question 4:Who or What was the Helena that the town was
named after??
Enjoy your visit in the town. It's a quick little jaunt off 299,
but a neat way to take a little break from your travels.
