Geocache Description:

Church Micro 2550...Bedford-St John's

This cache has been placed to bring you to the Church of St John, Bedford.

The cache was relocated on 1/6/18 and is now a flat cache. It only contains a log - you are a geocacher, you should have a writing implement!

Please note that the final cache is located outside the churchyard and is NOT accessible from inside the churchyard. There is also no need to enter the churchyard to get the required information.

It is believed that a church was founded on this site in 1180. This church was the chapel of the Hospital of St John, a home for elderly people who had become poor through misfortune or age. One of the hospital's domestic buildings still survives as the St John's Ambulance HQ nearby. The church, and hospital, have strong links with John Bunyan, perhaps Bedford's most famous son, and the rectory appears as the House of the Interpreter in Pilgrim's Progress. One room is devoted to Bunyan's life and times.

To find the location of the final cache, you will first need to find the phone number of the rector. The phone number is 01234 354ABC.

From here, find a blue plaque at N 52° 07.887 W 000° 27.909 In this house John Bunyan sought spiritual help from John Gifford in the DEFG's.

The final cache can be found at N 52° 07.AF(E-B-D) W 000° 27.(C+D)GG

Apologies for the originally incorrect calculation - thanks to Dragontree for identifying this without even leaving his armchair!

Stealth will be required as the final location is very public! Have fun!

While placing the cache, I parked at the unrestricted street parking in Ampthill Street. Additionally, the nearby retail park may offer parking opportunities.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
