Geocache Description:

The cache is located on a well- beaten path. A hike is involved. This is not a "drive- by" cache. The length of the hike to the cache depends on where you choose to park. The path, which was once clear, now requires traversing several trees downed by Hurricane Lili in 2002, but there should be no need to really bushwhack until perhaps the very last few feet. As with any Louisiana cache, bring the essentials- mosquito repellant and water.

This area is a prime bird watching area, hence the name of the cache. Even if you are not particularly a birding enthusiast, you're bound to enjoy the view. On any given day, you may encounter Little Blue Herons, Great, Snowy, and Cattle Egrets, White Ibis, Roseate Spoonbills, Night-Herons, Barred and Great Horned Owls, Pileated, Hairy, Downy and Red-bellied Woodpeckers, and Parula, Prothonotary and Yellow-throated Warblers and many other birds, including the bald eagle. Gators, nutria, and other wildlife also inhabit the area. We recommend bringing a pair of binoculars for superior viewing pleasure.

First parking coordinates: N30° 12.234 W91° 54.077 (1/2 mile hike-One way)

Second parking coordinates: N30° 13.750 W91° 54.796 (2 1/4 mile hike-One way)

The cache is an ammo can, and the original contents were:
  • geocaching letter
  • log book and pencil
  • pliers
  • monkey puzzle (100 pieces)
  • M&M super bouncy ball
  • pack of AA batteries
  • wooden peg golf game
  • assorted Mardi Gras beads
  • 3 geocaching buttons
  • mini-flashlight
In light of recent Big Gator Photos, we ask that everyone keep an eye on their kids and pets while hunting this cache. We knew there were LOTS of gators, but not quite that big! This may also be a good time to leave the nutria skin hats at home! Now let's see who can log the biggest cache snake!
