Geocache Description:

Magnetic micro. The sign on Peconic Ave. says Milton L. Burns Park, but to the locals it's commonly known as Grangebel Park.

Also, this is my 100th hide.

According to Thomas Stark's Riverhead: The Halcyon Years, Timothy M. Griffing built the three-acre Grangebel Park in downtown Riverhead in the late 1880's and named the park after his three daughters - Grace, Angeline and Mabel. All that remains of the ordinal design is the foundation to what was once a tall tower which overlooked all of Riverhead. The tower provided scenic and expansive views of the Peconic River and its surrounding area but was demolished around the mid 1940's.

With over $1,000,000 in federal funding, the park was recently renovated with new walkways, a new fishway, picnic tables, benches, lighting, a pavilion, and hand-carved pilings along the water's edge. The park has undergone a complete transformation since it became a target of beautification for the town a number of years ago.

Visitors to the park can take a walk and enjoy the scenery, play a game of chess or checkers on the board tables, or just sit, relax and watch the waterfalls. After finding the cache of course!
