Geocache Description:

An ammo can hidden in Clinton Nature Preserve (open 7 days a week during daylight hours only). Fairly easy 1/2 mile hike to within 20 yards of ground zero, but then the fun begins. No charge to enter, permission to hide granted by DCPRD Recreation Superintendent.

A deadly tracker-jacker nest high up in a tree. A cool running stream that nourishes hope. A wide open beach with a cornucopia sitting dead center, picked clean of survival items. A silver parachute that brings exquisite meals for the price of a simple kiss. Career tributes full of murderous rage. Traps. Mutts. Betrayal. Revenge.

And a simple, sweet melody passed on by the mockingjays, to let everyone know the working day is almost finished….

This is one of a series of Hunger Games inspired caches hidden nationwide. The Arena is where the actual Games take place. Twenty-four tributes, two chosen from among the children in each of the 12 districts of Panem, are dumped in the Arena and compete to be the sole survivor. In the 74th annual Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen is the female tribute from poverty-stricken District 12. She has learned how to survive in her own district, but will her skills help her survive the deadly Arena?

You are looking for an ammo can. We chose this site because it resembles the section of the Arena where the cornucopia sits in a clearing next to a lake, full of weapons and other survival items. You won’t need a bow & arrow or a thermal sleeping bag to survive this cache hunt, but you will need to watch out for thorn bushes, poison ivy, ticks and other critters, especially in the warmest months. Please re-hide the can as you found it.

There is no cost to enter and explore Clinton Nature Preserve, but please observe closing times. Be sure to check out the many other fine caches hidden in the area. The playground at the front of the park is very popular with kids of all ages as are the several large open fields. You can go for a nice run or walk on the 1/2 mile walking track that circles the playground/picnic area.

If possible, please trade survival-type items in keeping with the theme (but, no food!).

May the odds be ever in your favor!
