Easy find depending on the route you take. Don't go through the Y @ Oak Hill. BYOP.
The Indian Grass Prairie Preserve is open to the public for foot, bicycle, and equestrian traffic during daylight hours on marked trails. (See the trailmap.)
Located along Williamson Creek at approximately 700 feet above sea level, the Indian Grass Prairie Preserve has several interesting physical features. (I love oak trees. I hate the traffic in Oak Hill.)
The plant community of the Indian Grass Prairie Preserve is that of a Plateau Live Oak – Midgrass vegetative community. The site consists of an open prairie area located near the radio tower. Many invasive species such as Johnson and Bermuda grass inhabit this area. Watch out for the poison ivy.
Native species found here include Silver Bluestem, Indiangrass, Purple Threeawn, Curley Mesquite, and Side Oats Grama. This area is also being encroached by Honey Mesquite.
The major tree species include Live Oak, Ashe Juniper, Cedar Elm, Sugar Hackberry, and Texas Ash.
The understory is composed of Elbowbush, Texas Persimmon, and Wafer Ash.
Congrats! to BANDA on the FTF!
