I love it when baseball season is in full swing. The game may be boring to some, but there are so many intricacies with this game that is America’s pastime. It is one of the few games to be played without a clock.
All you need to solve this puzzle is knowledge of Major League Baseball team names, and then access to the Internet.
Use the word search below to come up with the coordinates for this cache.
For the north coordinates: Remove all major league team names from the following word search. As a general guideline, do not include the ‘S’ at the end of the team name for any team whose team name ends in an ‘S’. Thus ‘PHILLIE(S)’ becomes ‘PHILLIE’, but ‘WHITESOX’ stays the same. The team in Oakland will be represented by ‘ATHLETIC’, and not ‘A(s)’ for obvious reasons. Finally, (updated 2022), stay with INDIAN, not GUARDIAN (for now). After you have removed all of the teams in the puzzle, unscramble the remaining letters to come up with a well-known Hall-Of-Fame baseball player. The North coordinates are N41 48.XXX, where XXX is computed by first adding together this Hall-Of-Famer’s career Home Runs and Doubles. From that total subtract the number of career stolen bases he had throughout his career.
For the west coordinates: There are three teams missing from the word search. The West coordinates are W087 57.YYY where YYY is the accumulative number of regular season wins by those three teams in the 2021 season. Then go back to our Hall-Of-Famer from the word search puzzle and ADD the number of doubles he had in his career. Finally, SUBTRACT 10 from this result.
