Another bird you might be lucky enough to spot if you do this trail in Spring is the cuckoo. They tend to sit on the edge of the wood, keeping an eye out for unfortunate pipits. They wait until the pipits leave their nests to feed, before flying in and laying their egg. Even if you don't see them, you'll stand a good chance of hearing their famous call.
