Geocache Description:

This cache was initially placed as part of the West Bend Cache Ba$h. Don't forget to stamp your booklet and please leave the stamp behind for the next finder. This cache is available in winter.

This cache is placed at the trail entrance to Fellenz Woods Nature Preserve. If you are planning to enjoy the prairie, take time to wipe your shoes on your way in and out to prevent the spread of invasive species.

Geocacher Rule: LEAVE NO TRACE

What are Invasive Species?

Invasive species are non-native plans that cause harm, especially to the native environment. They might make wildlife sick or carry pathogens that kill forest trees. Invasive plants shade out other plants and compete for food and space and interfere with their growth and development. Sometimes, they take over to such a high degree that native species just die out. Invasive species place other species at increased risk of extinction.

What are some examples of invasive plants?

Garlic Mustard, Purple Loosestrife, Buckthorn, Honeysuckle, and many others

How do they spread?

Well, one way the invasive species spread is from YOU! They "hitchhike" on your shoes as you walk from one area to another. That is why it's important to wipe your feet off as you enter and exit natural areas.
