Geocache Description:

The Triple Zero series is a small Thank You to the many Emergency Service workers- Police/ Ambos/ CFA/ DSE and SES (whether paid employees or Volunteers) not just at the fire station located near here, but in the other stations and depots around Ballarat and surrounding area. They come when called- day or night and help in some way to make a better and safer place for us to live.
I signed up as a CFA volunteer with Burnbank Brigade in 1987, as it was what one did back then (or so I was told by my neighbour who just happened to be the brigade President) when one moved to the bush. The “bush” in my case was a 30 acre block 3-4km east of where this cache is in Browns Road. The Burnbank Fire Station of my day was rather different to the present station- it was a shed that the vehicles could just fit in and was minus- as were most rural brigades back then- the comforts of home such as a toilet and running water. Having not driven a truck for a number of years I was taken down to the shed, given the keys to the Austin and told to “take it for a drive and get used to it, and call in past home on your way back to let me know you want picking up” (no mobile phone way back then huh!) so with a couple of missed gear I was off in the mighty Austin and was under the CFA spell.... It can’t be all that bad as 24 years later I am still an active volunteer- indeed, now I am in an urban brigade I am actually far more active than I ever was at Burnbank. There have been occasions when I have gone to more calls in a day than I did in my 6 years at Burnbank!
The cache is an 850ml Sistma hidden in a cachey manner. It contains Emergency Service swaps- feel free to take one, but if leaving something please try and stick to the theme.
Please be mindful that emergency vehicles depart from here Code 1 (under “lights and sirens”) so if the door is up and the red/blue lights are flashing please give way. There is restricted parking in the area- but there is ample area for cachers to park off the road out of the way close to the cache.
