Geocache Description:

BSA Troop 309: Patrol Method

Shortly after joining a troop, a scout will become a member of a specific patrol. The leader of this group is called the Patrol Leader. During a campout each patrol will be responsible for tasks to make the campout go smoothly. Tasking include setting up tents, fire building, cooking meals for the patrol, washing dishes, filling the water jugs.

Importantly this develops teamwork as all the scouts need to work together to get the camping responsibilities complete before they can embark on fun activities.

For the Patrol Leader this is leadership training. He has to assign tasks and make sure they get done correctly. He is also responsible for Educating, Demonstrating, Guiding and Enabling younger scouts to learn the necessary camping and scouting skills. This teaching method is called the EDGE method
