Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the grounds of what used to be terraced gardens of Wemyss House, it is pretty overgrown, however it must have very spectacular in its day!!! I would say this could be quite a challenging cache to find! Care must be taken when retrieving the cache as this area is on a cliff!!

This cache is a small clip box

Wemyss House was built in 1860 on the shore of the Firth of Clyde, it stood where Undercliff Court now lies at the end of Undercliff Road. It was built from white sandstone and had beautiful terraced gardens placed on the cliffs behind it (where the cache is located)

I named this cache The Horses Tomb as I intended to place it in there but there was far more litter and debris than I expected and I felt that it may not be suitable for children to enter it. However it is a very interesting building, it can be seen from GZ and is well worth a look - I am going to see if I can find any old pictures of how it used to be and further information about it if possible!

The Horses Tomb is located behind the wall on the Clyde side of Cliff Terrace Road, in Wemyss Bay. The "horses tomb" did have the remains of horses in it at one point, however it is not known why Lord Inverclyde did this, apart from being keen on horses!

Further information can be found at www.wemyssbay.net

There are a number of places where you could park - including down the front or at the end of Ciff Terrace Road (at the bollards). There is also a number of ways to get to the cache, if you park on Cliff Terrace Road there is a hole in the wall before the bollards, which depending on your size you could squeeze through! The other option is to walk up (or down) Ardgowan Road/Castle Road and there is an old rusty gate you can go through and from here you can follow a track which leads you to what was the terraced gardens!

There is a little gift for the FTF! (",)
