Geocache Description:

This cache includes a logbook/pencil, historic images, and “First to Find” prize. Across the canyon was the original pump house, built in the 1880s by the Santa Fe Railroad to provide water for its steam engines, railyards, and Winslow’s growing population. The water was pumped from a deep canyon in the Little Colorado River and stored in a reservoir, then pumped five miles across the desert to the Santa Fe roundhouse. Second image: To the west was the original Clear Creek Bridge, shown here in the 1910s, and which has since been replaced with a modern version. Cache/images courtesy of the Old Trails Museum/Winslow Historical Society (www.oldtrailsmuseum.org). This cache is part of the Historic AZ 66 Geocaching Project (www.AZ66Geocaching.com), a series coordinated by the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona and designated an Arizona Centennial Legacy Project by the Arizona Historical Advisory Commission.
