Gleason also dubbed the "Trout Fishing Capital of the World" is a small town located along Highway 17 north of Merrill and south of Rhinelander. It has a population of 2,286 and was founded in 1890. The town is named after one of the best known pioneers of Lincoln County Salem Gleason. There are many wonderful trails to hike and places to fish all throughout Gleason.

Another claim to fame that Gleason has was the filming of "The Giant Spider Invasion" It was a low-budget 1975 film. The film is about giant spiders that terrorize the town of Merrill, Wisconsin and the surrounding area. The film received a considerable theatrical run and became one of the fifty top grossing films of that year. It is now regarded as a cult classic in the B film realm. One of the spider's body frame is still located in downtown Gleason.
