Geocache Description:

Halt, noble adventure! I know not what folly brings you and your companions to this dreaded place, but best ye turn back now for you just set the soles of your shiny boots in the land of Helheim.

What's that you say? Never heard of it? Where are you from, anyway? Anyone worth their weight in silver coins knows that Helheim is the lowest of the nine realms of Norse mythology. Ruled by Hel, the monstrous daughter of the trickster god Loki and his wife Angrboda, this cold, dark and misty abode of the dead is located in the world of Niflheim.

I almost feel sorry for you because once you've passed through these borders, you can never leave, thanks to the impassable river Gjoll that flows beneath your feet. This river runs from the spring Hvergelmir and encircles Helheim. Not even the the might of the gods is enough to free them from this realm! Those who die of old age or disease, and those not killed in battle, go to Helheim while those who die bravely on the battlefield go to Valhalla.

You must be brave warriors indeed to have made it past Garm, a monstrous hound, and Modgud - the guardians of this realm. Perhaps you even bested the giant Hraesvelg that sits at the edge of the world. In the form of an eagle, his giant, flapping wings make the wind blow.

I must admit, I haven't been exactly truthful with you. I do know why you're here. You seek the ancient rune. It's here, I've seen it with mine own eyes. But I can't tell you where it is. Where's the sport in that?

What I can you, is that you must be careful retrieving the rune from its hiding hole. You see, the rune is bound in its place by a magical enchantment cast upon it by Odin himself. The enchantment is also a curse, however. For if the rune should slip from your grasp and accidentally fall into the waters of the Gjoll, drifting away to nothingness - so shall your soul...
