On a clear night, you might be able to see a few stars from this spot, but that doesn't make it a night cache!
The Gordon MacMillan Southam Observatory, located next to the H R MacMillan Space Centre at Vanier Park, was built in 1979. Its hemispherical dome has a span of 10 metres and features a ½-metre , f/16 classical Cassegrain reflector telescope on a fork-style equatorial mount, and is equipped with a 15cm f/15 refractor guidescope (achromatic lens). This means it's a cool spot to explore the night skies above Vancouver.
On cloudless Saturday evenings the Observatory is open to the public (at 8pm) and admission is by donation. Come down and stargaze throughout the year!To confirm observatory openings, please call (604) 738-2855 or guest services at (604) 738-7827 ext 240 after 8:00 pm.
You are looking for a magnetic container, big enough for a log book and pencil, and a few small swag items. You are invited to help yourself - no trading required - but be fair and take only one item per cacher (let me know when it's running low). Please put the cache back exactly as you found it and, as always, remember to keep thinking Deep Thoughts!
