Geocache Description:

You have clicked on one of the many listings for
WWFM IX

June 9th. 1:00-1:15 p.m.
Mark your calendars.

This is fifteen minutes you won't want to miss.

~~PRELIMINARY INFORMATION~~
This event is a "Flash Mob" gathering of geocachers, only 15 minutes long!

To claim the event, you must be present and drop a signed log sheet into the marked container during this time.

"WWFM" stands for the World Wide Flash Mob event:

Hundreds of events all around the world, coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together geocachers and introduce others (non-geocachers) to geocaching.

You've heard of MEGA-EVENTS...

This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways.
Sort of like a MICRO-EVENT.
FLASH MOBS have gathered for other reasons.
(visit link)

Come be part of this historic experience!
The event will begin precisely at 1:00pm on June 9, 2012 and will last EXACTLY fifteen minutes, not one second longer.

EVENT DETAILS
  • Since this Flash Mob event is in the Biltmore Park area parking could be a definite issue. I recommend you arrive with enough time to spare to not only find a parking spot but to then walk to the event. Remember to pretend you are a non-cacher, and to act like you don't know any of the other geocachers present
  • At 12:59 PM - Make your way to the designated event coordinates shown above. Keep acting like you know no one.
  • 1:00 PM - At exactly 1:00 PM as determined by the GPS clock, I will set up a table to signify the start of the flash mob. You may then converge on the area for the official event. Signed log sheets should be dropped in the marked logsheet container. There will also be a large marked container for trackables. Then mingle and chat with your fellow cachers until the start of the main attraction.
  • 1:05 PM - At exactly 1:05 PM as determined by the GPS clock, I will blow a whistle to signify the start of the Water Gun Fight. Feel free to roam around the grassy area as you target other geocachers. Non-geocachers should NOT be targeted. When you hear the next whistle it is time for the Frozen In Time part. What I mean by "Frozen In Time" is that all participants should freeze and stay frozen until they hear the whistle again. Then continue the Water Gun Fight until you hear another whistle. Then freeze again. Etc. Etc. Got it?
  • 1:10 PM - At exactly 1:10 PM as determined by the GPS clock, I will blow the whistle multiple times to signify the end of the Water Gun Fight Frozen In Time part of the event. Immediately assemble for and take group photo. After the photo briefly mingle and chat.
  • 1:14 PM - One minute warning is called. Clean up and prepare to leave.
  • 1:15 PM - LEAVE the area immediately! AMSCRAY and SKEDADDLE! Log entries sealed and closed. If you missed the signing and the photo, you missed the event.
THE END.

The first Flash Mob Cache Event -- PodCacher Flash Mob Cache Event -- was hosted by iTrax and FoxTail (of PodCacher fame) on May 20 2007 in San Diego. [Click here to see a four minute video of that first event.] There were about twenty other events held concurrently in different states and countries. The second edition -- now termed "WWFM" -- included over 80 events across nine countries, and 33 US states. The third edition totaled 167 events in 15 countries and 45 US states (and two US territories). The fourth installment had 154 events in 20 countries and 39 US states and territories. Last year's eighth WWFM had 215 events in 25 countries.

One of the aims of the WWFM events is to have geocaching groups around the world assembling at the same time. The vast majority of events for this eighth edition have been scheduled to begin at the local equivalent of 1pm Eastern. (For example, 1pm in Asheville is 10am in California is 7pm in Zurich.) Come on down and join thousands of geocachers around the world!

In your "Will Attend" log please post the projected number in your group.

FTF HONORS WILL GO TO All Who Attend!!!
