Geocache Description:

This cache replaces a previous, archived cache located in the same spot. The previous cache owners (countypals) archived this cache in March, 2010. However, this was the second cache I ever found, and was one of my all time favourites, simply because of its location. I felt that this place needed a cache, so I have placed this one. I hope that future cache seekers enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the original!

I think the original cache owners' description says it all:

"The “Restin’” caches are a series that will take you to local cemeteries, places of great historical interest. From pioneers and modern people these lovely places are full of interesting information. Please take your time – walk around, visit with the past. The caches are easy to find. Please respect where you are.

Another of the cemeteries dating back to United Empire Loyalists. This is the site of the old Church of St. Mary Magdalene. In 1803, William Macaulay, received a crown grant of 400 acres of land in this area. Born in Kingston, ordained at Oxford, he used his own funds to finance the construction of this church. He also donated land for the District Courthouse and gaol which are located nearby. Rev. Macaulay is buried in this churchyard. One very interesting headstone is that of William Pierce, located at N 44 00.420 W 077 07.913. You'll never believe the date inscribed on this stone! If you have time, be sure to visit the church and the museum next door."

Take care, and happy trails!
