The Cowichan Valley Trail will take you from Duncan through Lake Cowichan and down past the Kinsol Trestle following former CN and E&N railway lines. With many access points and 8 trestles, it's a beautiful trail to walk, jog or bike. From the Island Spirit Team, we hope you enjoy your time in the Cowichan Valley.

Bald Eage
Keep your eyes open for this native bird of prey. The Bald Eagle is easily spotted by its white head, large brown body, yellow hooked beak and yellow feet. The distinctive and striking bird nests close to bodies of water in tall old growth trees or high cliffs. The large bird averages a body length of 70-102cms (28-40in) and weights 2.5-7kg (5.5-15lbs). Although, the male and female look similiar, the female is always up to 25% larger. The Bald Eagle's impressive wingspan of 1.8-2.3m (5.9-7.5ft) enables it to reach flying speeds of up to 56-70kph (35-43mph). Its flying speed and large talons help the eagle pick its regular diet of fish right out of the water. If fish can't be found, they will feast on carrion or small mammals and birds. Bald Eagles mate for life and work together taking turns incubating eggs, hunting or building their nest. These nests are the largest nest of any North American Bird, averaging 4m (13ft) deep and 2.m (8.3ft) wide.
