Geocache Description:

CHUTE is not for the faint of heart. Getting to this cache requires a good level of fitness, sure footed hiking boots, and nerves of steel. This cache is best attempted in the morning, when most of the hike/climb/scramble will be shaded.

This is my first cache in quite a while, so I wanted it to be a good one. Something along the lines of TOUCH (GC12ERG), Nagafa (GC12AZM) or The Top (GC17YBT). If you have found any of these caches, then you probably have an idea of what I am talking about. If you haven’t, then I highly recommend trying to find one or more of the three previously mentioned caches before attempting this one. This one is not necessarily more difficult to get to (although it IS difficult), but it is certainly more dangerous. You will do some hand over hand climbing, you will walk and crawl along narrow ledges, and after you find the cache, you will make a breathtaking descent to get back to your vehicle. You will need good sturdy footwear (absolutely no flipflops!). There are several places where you could slip and fall to your death. If this scares you, then do not attempt this cache. If this excites you, then read on for instructions on how to reach GZ!

Reaching the parking area for the cache requires a vehicle with good clearance. If you do not have a 4X4, then you can still get within a few hundred meters of the parking area, and you will just have to walk a bit further. From the parking area, ascend however you see fit to the waypoint “H1STEPBO”. From there you will climb the incline up to the waypoint “H2TOPCHU”, and you will see how the cache got its name. “H2TOPCHU” is a good place to take a break, catch your breath, enjoy the view, and steel your nerves before continuing on. From “H2TOPCHU” you will follow the ledge keeping the wall to your left. At times you will have to crawl until you reach the waypoint “H3UPSIDE”. At the time of placing the cache, there was a small red ribbon tied to a bush at this waypoint. From “H3UPSIDE” you will turn left and begin the scramble up to the plateau. Once on the top of the plateau, you should be able to find the cache easily. Take care on the descent!

When placed, the cache contained a pencil, sharpener, a log, and a bag with 25 FIRETACKS as a gift for the first finder.
