Geocache Description:

From the Trout Pond parking area of State Highway 79 follow Milk Ranch Road a short distance to Middle Peak Fire Road. The fire road features long switchbacks that bring you to the promenade deck rather than to the tip-top of Middle Peak. The fire road surface is maintained and except for winter season rain and/or snow makes for a pleasant though moderately uphill outing with a round-trip distance of about 6.5 Miles.

Middle Peak once had the most magnificent trees in all of San Diego County. The raging Cedar Fire of years gone by completely destroyed the grand forest that crowned Middle Peak; however, the multitude of charred and fallen trees is for now a wonder to behold. Think Gothic tales of old as you ascend into a scene laid waste by the uncontrollable force of wildfire. Even so there are signs of recovery and a reason for hope in the form of seedlings planted by Forest Service personnel and volunteers.
