Geocache Description:

"Universal Tour" is a series of 10 caches placed near Royston woods. The containers are a variety of shapes & sizes although most fall into the 'micro' bracket. The final cache (#10) is a bonus - in order to determine the co-ordinates, some Maths needs to be done using INFO FOUND IN CACHE DESCRIPTIONS & clues found in the containers (calculator & notepad helpful). Paths can be muddy so appropriate footwear needed. We hope you enjoy the walk around the woods and the astronomical facts too.

The constellation of the Dragon, Draco, contains NGC6543, the Cat’s Eye Nebula. It is about 3300 light years away from Earth and is just less than a light year across. The gas of this complex nebula is over 15,000°C and can be clearly observed in both the visible and x-ray region of the light spectrum. The Cat’s Eye Nebula has been studied extensively due to being ideally located in the heavens for large telescopes to observe. Spectacular observations have been made by the Hubble Space Telescope showing the complexity of the nebula; structures like knots, gas jets and arc-like features are all clearly visible.
