Geocache Description:

Nov 1st 2014, Cache replaced, please replace carefully making sure its well secured.

Fourteenth in the series The last in this series, or the first if you are doing it in reverse!
Wanted to bring the rail enthusiast/engineers far enough into Chalford to take in this magnificent and handsome piece of engineering.
Be sure to check out the other local caches.

From feed back I feel there are two points that need to be mentioned,
1. The valley has little or no mobile signal so those using phone apps be warned.. save them to offline..
2. If you are planning on fitting in food at beverages at hostelries' the chalford end does not do food (or didn't at time of writing) and the Daneway end does but has slightly more old fashioned serving hours so don't’ turn up at 3 expecting a drink and food..! so plan your trip accordingly, oh and there's the watering hole at Frampton Mansell for those who fancy a wee climb for their nourishment, they are more liberal with opening times best to check them out before you go..

This series of caches takes you along the Thames and Severn Canal towpath, now used as a long distance public footpath, through the picturesque Golden Valley to the famous Sapperton Tunnel.
The footpath is flanked by the canal one side and the river Frome on the other side the walk is roughly 4 km in length. (One way)Whilst setting the caches today I saw a plethora of nature from new born lambs, deer, ducks heaps of squirrels and the odd train!
As with all old canal towpaths there are many disused Locks some of which are very deep therefore children and dogs need close supervision in areas.
The series can be completed from either direction; however, due to the narrow roads around Chalford, parking is easier at the Old Daneway Basin, now a local pub car park! co-ords N 51° 43.750 W 2° 5.380 or to make it easy for youngsters and elderly leave a car both ends! Alternatively you could do the series in sections, check the local Os map for guidance. It works in well with other local caches such as the Air Shaft series, Sapperton Cats series and Zero 5 the later takes you right up to the Daneway portal of the Sapperton canal tunnel
To keep the younger members motivated the caches have been set at frequent intervals. More information regarding the history and future plans for the canal can be found at (visit link)
