Good Friends Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Nomex: Hi
As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm temporarily archiving this to keep it from continually showing up in search lists.

Don't hesitate to email me via the link on my Profile if you have any questions. [red]Please be sure to include the cache name and GC Code, or better yet, the URL of the cache page.[/red]

Thanks for your cooperation!

Geocache Description:

STEALTH may be required! Low traffic, but there is a house nearby and what traffic there is races by pretty fast. This is a side-of-the-road historical building in Big Oak Flat, CA. You may safely park on the little side street just past the building and walk back on level, paved road, two steps up to a level walkway.

The GPS is a little wonky here, so just be aware that you are looking for a building, not forest or meadow. The cache is a green plastic container that is about the size of a tall drinking glass with a screw-on top.

This building was the Gilbert and Gamble store which housed a Wells Fargo office (one of the cache owners is a Wells Fargo employee) where one of the store owners, Michael Gilbert, was the agent. It was one of only two buildings not destroyed by a fire that decimated Big Oak Flat in 1863. Vacant since the 1940's, this building, along with side-buildings and a house, was donated to the Southern Tuolomne Historical Society in 2007. Contact either the historical society or the Groveland Yosemite Gateway Museum for more information, to support the renovation efforts or to volunteer.
