This cache site overlooks the Whoop Up Canyon in Wyoming. Fire broke out in the summer of 2011 and tried to destroy some petroglyphs that are pecked in the rock there. This nano may make you want to bang your head against a rock!
The semi circle draw at the foot of Elk Mountain is called Whoop up Canyon. Locals have known of the rock pictures there for many years. The petroglyphs, now on private property, have been attributed to peoples from the late Paleo-Indian period approximately 18,000 years ago. During the wild land fire in 2011 local BLM personal tried to protect the area by clearing fuels to keep the rock art from spalling off in the heat. Cache is on top of the ridge so watch the kids and pet.
