Geocache Description:

This is a pretty basic cache. The reason for its placement is to bring you to Camak, to enjoy this quiet, historic little town. The cache is being placed in time for the 2012 Camak Railroad Days festival.

The Georgia Railroad Company was formed in 1833 to build and run a rail line from Augusta to Athens. As construction of the railway progressed through Warren County, a station was established in an area that came to be named Camak. Over time, additional lines were built from Camak to Warrenton, Atlanta, Mayfield, Macon, and Savannah. Camak became a major crossroads of rail transportation in Georgia. The railroad workers built houses along the rail line close enough to walk to work. Stores, restaurants, churches, a hotel, and a school were built to serve the residents of the developing town. In 1898, the city of Camak was incorporated. It was named for James Camak, a math professor, banker, newspaper editor, and most importantly a founder and the first president of the Georgia Railroad Company.

Over the years, the rail lines passing through Camak have been controlled by the Georgia Railroad Company, the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, Central of Georgia Railway, the Southern Railway System, the Atlanta & Westpoint Railroad, the Western Railway of Alabama, Atlantic Coast Line, Seaboard Coast Line, Family Lines System, Seaboard System Railroad, and finally CSX.

This cache is placed in honor of the proud railroad history of Camak.

Permission for this cache placement was given by the mayor.

EDIT: Congratulations to PilgrimsProgress for FTF. The sun wasn't even up yet.
