Missa Solemnis

Erzherzog Rudolf von Österreich (1788-1831) hielt sich in den Jahren 1825 – 1829 mehrmals als Kurgast in Bad Ischl auf. Er war der jüngste Sohn von Kaiser Leopold II.

In der Musikwelt ist Erzherzog Rudolf als Schüler und Förderer L. v. Beethovens bekannt. Er spielte hervorragend Klavier und komponierte auch selbst. Ab 1809 bezahlte er Beethoven zusammen mit einigen anderen Mäzenen eine jährliche Rente, um ihn in Wien zu halten.

Beethoven schrieb Erzherzog Rudolf zu Ehren die Missa Solemnis in D-Dur, op. abc, die zu Rudolfs Inthronisation als Erzbischof von Olmütz zur Aufführung gebracht werden sollte. Die Komposition nahm allerdings deutlich mehr Zeit als ursprünglich geplant in Anspruch und so fand die Erstaufführung erst drei Jahre nach Rudolfs Weihe zum Bischof statt. Die Missa Solemnis gilt als eine der bedeutendsten Kompositionen Beethovens.

Das Naheverhältnis Beethovens zu seinem Schüler, Freund und Förderer Erzherzog Rudolf ist unter anderem daraus ersichtlich, dass Beethoven ihm einige seiner bedeutendsten Kompositionen widmete, darunter das d. Klavierkonzert G-Dur op. 58, das 5. Klavierkonzert Es-Dur op. e3, die Klaviersonate Es-Dur op. 81a (Les adieux), die Violinsonate G-Dur op. 96, das Klaviertrio B-Dur op. 97, die Klaviersonate B-Dur op. 10f (Hammerklavier-Sonate) und seine letzte Klaviersonate c-Moll op. 111.

Bevor der Cache angesteuert werden kann, muss noch eine Zusatzaufgabe gelöst werden. Das Denkmal wurde im Jahr 1xcy errichtet. Um die Koordinaten des Caches zu errechnen, führt man folgende Rechenoperationen aus:

1. zu den N-Koordinaten des Denkmals addiert man die Summe von x und y

2. zu den E-Koordinaten des Denkmals addiert man das Produkt von x und y und subtrahiert y

Anmerkung: Wenn im Winter das Denkmal und die Jahreszahl verhüllt sind, ist die Jahreszahl auch einige Meter vom Denkmal entfernt zu finden!

Archduke Rudolf of Austria (1788-1831) spent some time in Bad Ischl to take a cure during the years of 1825 – 1829. He was the youngest son of Emperor Leopold II.

Rudolf took lessons in piano and composition from L. v. Beethoven. He also supported Beethoven financially to keep him in Vienna.

Beethoven planned to compose a mass, the Missa Solemnis in D-Major, op. abc, for the enthronement of Rudolf as Archbishop of Olomouc in today’s Czech Republic. It took Beethoven much longer than planned to finish this composition, which is considered to be one of his masterpieces, and therefore it was first played about three years later.

Archduke Rudolf was one of Beethoven best friends and main supporters. Beethoven dedicated some of his greatest compositions to Rudolf like the Piano Concerto no. d in G Major op. 58, the Piano Concerto no. 5 in E flat Major op. e3, the Piano Sonata in E flat Major, op. 81a (Les adieux), the Piano Sonata in B flat Major, op. 10f (Hammerklavier-Sonate) and his last Piano Sonata in c-minor, op. 111.

Before you are able to find the cache, you have to do some more calculations. The monument was built in the year 1xcy. You have to:

1. add the sum of x and y to the N coordinates of the monument

2. multiply x and y, then subtract y and add the result to the E coordinates of the monument.
