I don't know if this ever made the news, but up until a few years ago there was big problem in the Waterford area. Children's toys were being stolen in the middle of the night out of their houses. It seemed that someone or someTHING was sneaking into children's rooms and taking their stuff right out of their closets, toyboxes, and even out from under their sleeping arms. The children's claims of seeing a small nasty monster scurrying away were far from believable for some time. However, once a police investigation was started, the evidence proved that the children's stories may be more plausible than first thought. Eventually, as the evidence racked up, the footprints, handprints, fingerprints, and claw marks were undeniable... There was a monster in our midst.
Parents with small children began to take extra precautions in monster-proofing their homes. Neighborhood watches began popping up in almost every neighborhood. Police set up stings with brave decoy children and decoy toys. But despite the community's actions and precautions, this monster continued to strike unabated for months... Until one cold night in March 2008. The hidden police camera caught a glimpse of a clawed red hand sweeping the toy from the child, and the police microphone captured a snarl, an evil chuckle, and padded footsteps running away. Unfortunately, those images and sounds were the only things that were captured that night. The monster had slipped through The Law's fingers and remained at large. Little did the monster know, though, that the toy he took was a police decoy toy from a police decoy child. The toy had a GPS tracker embedded into it, and the monster led everyone its location.
The problem is that when the police went to find and arrest the monster the following day, there was nothing to be found at the GPS coordinates. For weeks people scoured the area, but the toys and the monster were gone. No human has seen or heard from the monster since that day. Most of us believe that he moved on to torment another community. Maybe he left some toys behind.
