The cache is on public land close to the Isle of Wight Botanic Gardens nd the former IOW Rare Breeds park. , the site of the Royal National Hospital for Diseases of the Chest which was founded in 1868. It is just feet away from the public footpath with magnificent views, and is located on relatively level ground. The area is wheelchair friendly and the cache is ideal for young families. Ideal cache to then go on and explore the surrounding nature and history.
Small 1 litre sandwich type clip-lock box with 10 or so items and logbook. The cache is close to the Isle of Wight Botanic Gardens, the site of the Royal National Hospital for Diseases of the Chest which was founded in 1868 and used for wounded soldiers during the First World War. It is just feet away from, and outside, the boundary of the scenic Compton Chine to Steephill Cove Site of Special Scientific Interest - an area of outstanding natural beauty.
After the hospital was demolished in the 1960s, Ventnor Botanic Garden was established in 1970 as the Steephill Pleasure Gardens, Ventnor Botanic Garden lies in the remarkable microclimate at the heart of the Undercliff.' This unique garden is protected from the cold northerly winds by chalk downs and is home to unique fauna and flora, and boasts numerous plants grown outdoors. look out for the Mediterranean lizards or the red squirrels. Nearby is the former residence of Alfred Noyes the poet.
There is a nearby picnic area and playground for kids and adults alike. Parking is available just off the nearby main road or in the Botanic Gardens Car Park.
Nearby are wonderful views down into Orchard Bay, infamous for smugglers.
The cache is on public open commonland along the Isle of Wight coastal path which encircles the island.
